2020 IUS COMMUNE ANNUAL CONFERENCE WORKSHOP ON INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC LAW
26 November 2020 @ 14:00 - 16:00
International economic law after the return of (geo)politics: in search of balance
This workshop engages with the question of balance in international economic law (IEL)—balance within IEL (between trade and non-trade related values) and balance between IEL and national sovereignty in times of (geo-)political turbulence. The workshop is divided in three parts, focusing on international investment law, investment screening, and international trade law, respectively. A broad range of issues will be discussed, including the role of human rights due diligence in international investment law, the interplay between investment protection in free trade agreements and national investment screening mechanisms, and the scope of the GATT national security. In each part of the workshop, two papers will be presented, followed by a discussion.
